Victor Garvey Relocates Michelin-Starred Sola

Michelin-starred chef Victor Garvey is set to close his flagship London restaurant, Sola, as the acclaimed dining destination prepares to move to a new location later this summer.

The Californian-inspired restaurant, situated in Soho since 2019, will serve its final guests at its current site on June 6 before reopening in Notting Hill on June 17. The move marks a significant shift for Sola, which will downsize from 26 seats to just 12 covers.

Garvey said the decision was influenced by the success and atmosphere of Sola’s sister restaurant, Mater1a, which offers a more intimate dining experience with only 16 seats. The chef explained that closer interaction with diners and the opportunity to focus more deeply on creativity played a major role in the relocation.

Reflecting on the move, Garvey expressed gratitude for Sola’s years in Soho and the support it received from guests. However, he said the experience at Mater1a made him realise that Sola’s future lies in a more personalised and immersive setting.

The chef revealed that the new venue has been designed around a chef’s counter concept, allowing a maximum of 12 guests at a time. This format, he said, will provide greater freedom to experiment and develop dishes while creating a stronger connection between the kitchen and diners.

Alongside the new dining setup, Sola’s Notting Hill location will also feature an expanded wine programme with a particular emphasis on American wines.

Garvey began his culinary career at the age of 15 and earned Sola its Michelin star in 2021. He now oversees both Sola and Mater1a, the latter opening earlier this year with a menu inspired by his travels in Japan and a lively dinner atmosphere featuring live DJ performances.

Before focusing on these ventures, Garvey also launched The Victor Garvey at the Midland Grand restaurant in St Pancras Hotel. Despite receiving strong critical praise, the restaurant closed less than five months after opening last year
