Security Keeps Sussex Family Away
Prince Harry will travel to the UK next week without his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, according to reports.
The family had initially planned to accompany the Duke of Sussex during his visit. However, those plans changed after it was confirmed they would not receive taxpayer-funded police protection while in the UK. Meghan and the children are therefore expected to remain in the United States, although they could still join Harry later if his trip extends to the Midlands.
Harry’s five-day visit marks the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham. Last month, he and Meghan accepted an invitation to stay at a royal residence during the visit.
The Duke has previously stated that security concerns are the main reason he is reluctant to bring his family to Britain. In an interview with the BBC last year, he said he could not envision returning to the UK with Meghan and their children without stronger security arrangements.
The dispute centers on decisions made by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), the body responsible for determining security provisions for senior members of the royal family and other high-profile individuals.
Prince Harry and Meghan last visited the UK together in 2022 for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Since then, Harry has returned to Britain on several occasions without his family, including a visit to see his father last September.
