City fans troll Arsenal before title clash game

Manchester City supporters created a stir ahead of today’s top-of-the-table clash against Arsenal after placing Arsenal-branded bottles outside the Etihad Stadium, in what many fans described as a psychological jab before kick-off.

The stunt references the popular football phrase “bottle job,” often used to tease teams perceived to have faltered under pressure. The idea gained traction last weekend when a fan went viral on social media after being spotted pretending to drink from a plastic bottle featuring the Arsenal crest during City’s match at Stamford Bridge. The supporter was later identified as Tal Rehman, a Stockport-based father of three and devoted City fan, who reportedly included a hidden message on the bottle and even named his son after club legend Yaya Touré.

Reactions online were mixed, with some fans describing the gesture as part of the growing mind games surrounding the title race. Others pointed out that the joke could backfire if Arsenal secure a positive result at the Etihad.

Heading into the match, Arsenal hold a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. A victory today would represent a major step toward their first league title in 22 years. However, Manchester City have a game in hand, meaning a win for Pep Guardiola’s side could significantly tighten the race. If both teams win their remaining fixtures, the championship could ultimately be decided on goal difference or potentially even a play-off scenario.

City are in strong form, unbeaten in nine league matches since their defeat to Manchester United in January, and have won eight of their last ten home games at the Etihad. Meanwhile, Arsenal missed the opportunity to extend their advantage last weekend after suffering defeat to Bournemouth. The Gunners have finished as Premier League runners-up in each of the last three seasons, twice behind City, and are determined to finally go one step further this year
