The Ritz Secret Garden Returns With Dress Code
A secluded outdoor retreat at one of London’s most prestigious hotels has reopened for the summer, offering visitors a peaceful escape in the heart of the capital — provided they meet its strict dress requirements.
Known simply as The Secret Garden, the seasonal outdoor bar and garden sits within The Ritz in Mayfair. Surrounded by the busy streets of central London, the space is designed as a tranquil, nature-inspired setting and is open to both hotel guests and the general public.
However, entry comes with conditions. Visitors are expected to dress in smart casual attire, in keeping with The Ritz’s standards. According to the hotel’s policy, shorts, ripped jeans, trainers and sportswear are not allowed in its restaurants or bars.
Those who comply can enjoy a carefully curated garden featuring hydrangeas, crab-apple trees, parasols and a decorative water feature. Cashmere blankets from Johnston’s of Elgin are also available to keep guests comfortable on cooler days.
The venue combines its picturesque setting with an upscale food and drinks menu. Signature cocktails include Forest, made with vodka, blackberry syrup and lychee liqueur, alongside the Mediterranean Spritz, blending limoncello, sherry, vermouth and sage soda.
Luxury dining options are also on offer, including caviar selections priced as high as £950. More accessible choices include arancini, charcuterie platters and sandwiches, including a Wagyu beef and caviar brioche roll priced at £90.
Guests can also enjoy live performances, with entertainment scheduled on Thursday and Friday evenings, throughout Saturdays and during Sunday lunch service.
The Secret Garden operates daily from 11am until 11.30pm, weather permitting. The venue is designed primarily for adults and is not considered suitable for children.
Previous visitors have praised both the atmosphere and service. Reviews describe the garden as an elegant outdoor setting with attentive staff, quality food and drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the standards associated with The Ritz.
