Harry Plans UK Trip With Family if Security Allows

Prince Harry is continuing efforts to bring his wife, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, to the United Kingdom next week, provided suitable security arrangements can be agreed upon.

Although there had been uncertainty over whether the Duchess of Sussex and the children would join him on the visit from the United States, Harry’s team says the current plan is for the family to travel together if safety concerns are addressed.

A spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex said Harry remains committed to finding a solution that would allow the trip to proceed securely while giving Archie and Lilibet the chance to spend time in the UK.

Security has remained a major concern for Prince Harry since stepping back from royal duties. He has previously stated that he would not feel comfortable bringing his family to Britain without adequate police protection. In an interview with the BBC last year, he said he could not imagine returning to the UK with Meghan and their children under the current security arrangements.

At the heart of the dispute is the decision-making of the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which determines security provisions for senior royals and other high-profile individuals. Harry has argued that the protection offered does not properly reflect the level of risk he faces. His legal challenge over the issue was unsuccessful.

As a result, Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet have not visited the UK since 2022, when the family attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Harry has made several solo visits since then, including a meeting with King Charles last September, a move that was viewed as a sign of improving family relations.

Despite the ongoing security concerns, preparations for next week’s visit remain unchanged, with planned events and venues still expected to go ahead. The visit will include engagements connected to the Invictus Games, which Prince Harry founded and which will be hosted in Birmingham next year.

The family has reportedly been offered accommodation on a royal estate, where security measures are already in place. However, Harry’s representatives maintain that protection is also needed during travel and public appearances, arguing that potential risks extend beyond where he stays.

“Prince Harry’s programme includes both public and private engagements across the UK,” his spokesperson said, adding that effective security must protect the individual wherever they go, not just at their accommodation.

The UK government declined to comment on specific security arrangements, stating only that measures for high-profile individuals are assessed carefully and implemented in a way that is both rigorous and proportionate while avoiding disclosure that could compromise safety.
