Girl Rescued After Dangling From Ilford Window
A young girl was dramatically rescued after hanging from a window ledge above a shop on Ilford High Road in east London on Tuesday afternoon.
The child was seen clinging to the exterior of a flat above a pawnbroker’s store while concerned onlookers gathered below. Witnesses watched in alarm as she struggled to hold on, with footage shared on social media capturing members of the public shouting encouragement and urging rescuers to act quickly.
In the video, a woman can be seen leaning out of a lower window, reaching toward the girl and calling to her. A police officer positioned on a ledge beneath the child also attempted to help, but was unable to reach her safely.
As the situation became increasingly urgent, a man joined the officer on the ledge below. The pair positioned themselves directly underneath the girl as her grip appeared to weaken.
Moments later, the child slipped from the ledge. Gasps could be heard from the crowd as she fell, but the man successfully caught her, while the police officer helped steady them both. Onlookers erupted into applause and cheers as the rescue unfolded.
Witnesses praised the rescuers, with some heard shouting “Well done!” and expressing relief that the child had been saved. After the rescue, the man comforted the girl before passing her through a nearby window to safety.
The police officer was seen thanking the member of the public for his assistance. Meanwhile, several bystanders questioned how the girl had come to be hanging from the window and where her parents or guardians were at the time.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed that the girl was safely brought down at approximately 3:32 p.m. with the assistance of an attending officer and a member of the public.
“The girl was brought to safety by 3.32pm by an attending officer and member of the public,” the spokesperson said. “They did not receive any injuries.”
The circumstances that led to the incident have not yet been disclosed.
