Royal Wedding Dress Dispute Back in Spotligh

As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrate their wedding anniversary, memories of their 2018 royal wedding continue to spark discussion — including claims of behind-the-scenes tension before the ceremony.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex exchanged vows at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on May 19, 2018, in a ceremony watched by millions around the world. While the occasion appeared flawless, Harry later revealed in his memoir Spare that preparations were not without stress.

According to Harry, disagreements arose over bridesmaid dresses just days before the wedding. He claimed that Princess Kate raised concerns about the fit of Princess Charlotte’s dress, describing it as too large and poorly fitted. Meghan reportedly suggested alterations, while Kate felt the dress should be remade entirely.

Harry wrote that the exchange left Meghan deeply upset, saying he found her in tears following the discussion.

The incident attracted widespread attention after early reports suggested Meghan had upset Kate. However, Meghan later told Oprah Winfrey that the opposite had occurred, claiming Kate had hurt her feelings but later apologised and sent flowers.

Royal author Tom Quinn, in Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, offered a more balanced account. He suggested both women exchanged remarks they later regretted, describing the disagreement as an emotional moment during stressful wedding preparations rather than a lasting feud.

Tailor Ajay Mirpuri, who worked on the dresses, also downplayed the controversy in comments to The Daily Mail. He said he witnessed no conflict personally and noted that last-minute wedding issues are common and understandably stressful for everyone involved.

Despite the reported tensions, the royal wedding went ahead successfully and remains one of the most memorable ceremonies in recent royal history
