Alfredo Sauce Recalled Over Salmonella Risk
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has upgraded a recall of Alfredo sauce distributed across 41 states to its most serious classification after a supplier warned that one of the product’s ingredients may be contaminated with Salmonella.
Tennessee-based The Coffee Connexion Co. Inc. voluntarily recalled the sauce on May 6 after discovering it contained a dry milk powder ingredient that had itself been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. On June 4, the FDA classified the action as a Class I recall, the agency’s highest-risk category.
According to the FDA, a Class I recall is issued when there is a reasonable probability that using or being exposed to a product could cause serious health problems or even death.
The recall covers 913 cases of Alfredo sauce packaged in 3-pound, 7-ounce sealed poly bags, with 12 bags per case. The affected product carries UPC 0039954921963 and product number SSP980713.
Consumers and distributors should check the following recalled lot numbers:
- 046188–046193 (Lot 0126, Best By Jan. 12, 2028)
- 047290–047296 (Lot 0476, Best By Feb. 16, 2028)
- 048029–048034 (Lot 0686, Best By March 9, 2028)
- 049089–049094 (Lot 1106, Best By April 20, 2028)
The product was distributed widely across the United States, including states such as California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Washington, Tennessee, and dozens of others.
The recall remains active, and the FDA has not reported any confirmed illnesses linked to the product. However, consumers are advised not to consume the recalled sauce and to follow recall instructions provided by retailers or distributors.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause foodborne illness, often leading to symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Symptoms typically appear between 12 and 72 hours after infection. While most people recover without treatment, severe infections can occur, particularly among young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The FDA continues to monitor the situation, while The Coffee Connexion Co. has not yet publicly commented on the recall.
