West Ham United Makes History at the Lady Mayor’s Show
.
This year’s event, which boasts a tradition spanning more than 800 years, was renamed the Lady Mayor’s Show for the very first time. The change marks a historic milestone, celebrating Alderwoman Dame Susan Langley DBE, a lifelong West Ham supporter, who has been elected as the 607th Lord Mayor of London for the 2025–26 term.
Recognized as the world’s oldest, longest, and most beloved civic procession, the Lady Mayor’s Show dates back to the 13th century. More than 125 organizations and thousands of participants joined the three-mile-long parade through London’s streets.
The procession began at Mansion House in the morning, passed iconic landmarks such as the Royal Courts, St Paul’s Cathedral, and the Temple, before returning to Mansion House at 2:40 p.m. The event drew an estimated 350,000 spectators, with millions more watching the live coverage on television and online across the globe.
West Ham United’s float took pride of place near the front of the parade, showcasing the club’s rich history, from its founding as Thames Ironworks FC in 1895, to its many achievements, legendary players, diversity, and community work led by the West Ham United Foundation.
The Lady Mayor’s Appeal helped fund the Inspire Zone at The Foundry, West Ham’s newly opened community hub in Beckton, located in the London Borough of Newham.
Born in West Ham and educated in Harold Wood, Dame Susan Langley DBE built a successful career in business and civic leadership. She was elected to represent Aldgate Ward on the Court of Aldermen—part of the City of London Corporation—in 2018, and served as Sheriff of the City of London for 2023–24.
On Friday, November 7, Dame Susan became only the third woman in history to hold the title of Lord Mayor of London, and the first to adopt the title “Lady Mayor.” The traditional Lady Mayor’s Show took place the following day in her honor.
As Lady Mayor, Dame Susan is committed to representing and promoting both businesses and residents within the City of London. Reflecting on the occasion, she said:
“I am deeply honored to have been elected to this office and to lead the very first Lady Mayor’s Show. Seeing so many people join the parade is truly extraordinary—it celebrates the City’s long-standing traditions while highlighting the many charitable causes we support for the benefit of the City and the UK.
Riding through the streets of the Square Mile in the State Coach and sharing this incredible atmosphere with everyone will be unforgettable.
During my mayoralty, I will work to strengthen London’s global leadership, support business growth, and ensure that the City continues to make a positive social impact—while inspiring the next generation to see the City as a great place to live and work.”
