Woman Killed After Cord Allegedly Not Attached
A 21-year-old woman has died in a tragic bungee jumping accident in Brazil after staff allegedly failed to attach a crucial safety cord before she was pushed from a bridge.
The incident occurred at Skeleton Bridge in the municipality of Limeira, in São Paulo state. According to local authorities, the woman was taking part in a bungee jump organized by a private company when the fatal accident happened.
Video footage circulating on social media reportedly shows staff members escorting the woman to the jump platform before she is launched from the bridge. Moments later, bystanders can be heard shouting that the safety rope had not been attached.
Emergency responders were called to the scene but were unable to save the woman and pronounced her dead at the location. Her body was later transferred to the local forensic institute for examination.
The victim’s fiancé, who was present at the bridge during the incident, reportedly required medical attention after becoming ill upon learning of her death.
Just minutes before the accident, the woman shared a lighthearted post on Instagram, uploading a photo from the bridge and writing: “Who was the crazy person who let me come jump off a bridge???”
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The Civil Police will examine whether negligence played a role in the accident and whether any individuals involved could face criminal charges.
Meanwhile, the Limeira City Council has announced plans to file a complaint with Brazil’s federal government. Mayor Murilo Félix stated that officials are seeking accountability over what they describe as longstanding safety concerns in the area.
“It is necessary to determine responsibility for the lack of access control to a federal area that has presented known risks for years and still lacks the necessary protection measures,” Félix said.
The investigation remains ongoing.
