Diana-Inspired Look Shines at Royal Parade
Princess Kate paid a heartfelt tribute to her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales, during Saturday’s Trooping the Colour celebrations, the annual event marking the official birthday of King Charles III.
The Princess of Wales appeared in a powder-blue and white coat dress designed by Catherine Walker, a designer closely associated with Diana’s iconic royal wardrobe. The outfit closely resembled a coat Diana wore in 1987, creating a striking visual link between the two royal women.
This year’s ceremony also coincided with the 45th anniversary of Diana’s first Trooping the Colour appearance in 1981. Then known as Lady Diana Spencer, the 19-year-old attended the event just one month before marrying the then-Prince Charles. For the occasion, she wore a blue floral ensemble created by British designer Bill Pashley.
Diana’s debut at the ceremony is remembered for more than her fashion choice. During the procession, she rode in a carriage with Prince Andrew while Prince Charles participated on horseback. The event was interrupted when a teenager fired six blank shots from a replica pistol at Queen Elizabeth II as she rode past. Although the shots startled the Queen’s horse, she quickly regained control. The individual was swiftly detained by security personnel and police.

Over the years, Princess Kate has frequently honored Diana’s legacy through her fashion and jewelry choices. Her wardrobe often features styles reminiscent of Diana’s, including tailored coat dresses and classic pearl accessories. Kate is also known for rewearing outfits, a habit Diana embraced as well.
Diana originally wore the powder-blue Catherine Walker coat to Easter services in 1987 while accompanying a young Prince William and her nephew, Peter Phillips. On a later occasion, she restyled the look without a cream blouse and paired it with a pearl necklace.
Kate’s recent tributes extend beyond clothing. Last weekend, she attended a family wedding wearing a pearl bracelet that once belonged to Diana. She also continues to wear the sapphire engagement ring that originally belonged to the late princess and was given to her by Prince William.
The appearance at Trooping the Colour served as another subtle but meaningful reminder of Diana’s enduring influence on the royal family and on Kate’s personal style.
