Government Pardon Saves ‘Donald Trump’ Buffalo
A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, popularly known as “Donald Trump” because of its striking blond tuft of hair, has escaped being sacrificed for Eid al-Adha after authorities intervened at the last moment.
The nearly 700-kilogram buffalo had already been purchased for traditional slaughter when government officials stepped in. According to a Home Ministry official, growing public attention and security concerns prompted the decision ahead of the Eid celebrations.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed reportedly directed officials to halt the sacrifice, reimburse the buyer, and arrange for the buffalo to be relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka.
Officials said the animal’s sudden popularity played a major role in the decision. Videos of the buffalo spread widely online, attracting visitors from across the country who flocked to the farm to see its unusual blond fringe and notably calm personality.

Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha explained that the buffalo earned its nickname from his younger brother, who thought its appearance resembled that of the former U.S. president. He also described the animal as exceptionally gentle and requiring special care, including frequent feeding and regular bathing.
Albino buffaloes are uncommon in Bangladesh, where livestock are typically dark-colored. During the busy Eid livestock season, the buffalo’s rare appearance made it stand out — but its viral nickname may ultimately have been what saved it.
