Prince William Shares George School Update

Prince William has shared a rare update about Prince George’s education, revealing that the young royal has already begun spending nights away at school ahead of his move to secondary education later this year.

The Prince of Wales made the comment during a live appearance on Heart Breakfast on May 22 while visiting the Isles of Scilly. Speaking during the morning school run, William sent a playful message to his children and casually confirmed George’s first steps into boarding life.

“Charlotte and Louis, because George is boarding last night, if you’re listening, make sure you’re on time, please,” William said. “Make sure you’re not fighting over who’s listening to what this morning.”

The brief remark offered an unusual glimpse into family life and confirmed that 12-year-old George has been using the flexible boarding option at Lambrook School in Berkshire, where he attends alongside Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Lambrook provides both weekly and flexi-boarding arrangements for pupils aged 7 to 13, giving families the option of gradually introducing children to overnight stays and greater independence.

George, who turns 13 in July, is expected to leave Lambrook at the end of the summer term as the school only educates students through Year 8. While no official announcement has been made about his next school, Eton College is widely viewed as the leading choice.

The prestigious school, attended by both Prince William and Prince Harry, is located near the family’s Windsor home and has long been linked to George’s future education. Reports suggest William and Kate have been carefully preparing their eldest son for boarding life through Lambrook’s flexible arrangements.

Boarding school has long been part of royal tradition. William and Harry both began boarding at Ludgrove School before moving to Eton at age 13. Although Princess Diana initially had concerns about sending her sons away at a young age, she later said the experience allowed them to enjoy a more normal upbringing and form friendships beyond palace life.

For George, boarding could offer similar advantages, including privacy, independence, and a sense of normality as he enters his teenage years and gradually takes on greater public responsibilities.

Although other schools, including Marlborough College and Wellington College, have been mentioned in speculation about George’s future, Eton’s royal connections and location near Windsor continue to make it the strongest contender.

An official announcement regarding George’s next school is expected closer to the start of the new academic year. Until then, the Wales family appears focused on helping him adjust to the transition step by step
