Aer Lingus Jet Diverts After Emergency at 37,000ft
An Aer Lingus flight travelling from Dublin to Geneva was diverted to London Gatwick Airport after the crew declared an emergency while cruising at 37,000 feet.
Flight EI680 departed Dublin Airport at 6:26am and was en route to Geneva International Airport when the situation unfolded over southern England. According to flight tracking reports, the crew transmitted a Squawk 7700 code, the internationally recognised signal used to indicate a general emergency onboard an aircraft.
Following the emergency declaration, the aircraft altered its route and headed to London Gatwick Airport instead of continuing to its scheduled destination in Switzerland.
The exact nature of the emergency has not yet been confirmed. Authorities and airline officials are expected to provide further details as the situation develops.
