Charles and Camilla Shine at Chelsea Flower Show
King Charles III and Queen Camilla made their annual visit to the Chelsea Flower Show on Monday, spending time exploring the renowned horticultural event and meeting several well-known figures.
During the visit, the King toured a variety of gardens and floral displays, taking time to admire plants and even pause to smell roses featured at the show.
A key highlight of the visit was the King’s Foundation Curious Garden, a major attraction developed through collaboration between the King, former football star David Beckham, and television gardener Alan Titchmarsh. Inside a rustic wooden hut within the garden, the trio gathered among quirky decorations including gnomes, artwork, hanging plants, yarn, jars of honey and vodka.
The display included three rose varieties named in honour of the King, David Beckham and Alan Titchmarsh. Beckham wore his personalised rose in his buttonhole, a flower commissioned by his daughter Harper to celebrate his 50th birthday. Greeting the King, Beckham thanked him warmly.
Queen Camilla praised the garden’s appearance while speaking with Titchmarsh, remarking on its natural and relaxed design.
The royal couple also visited the Campaign to Protect Rural England’s garden, where the King met actress Judi Dench. Both admired a striking Gaia, or Mother Nature, artwork, with the King calling it “extraordinary” and Dench describing it as “just beautiful”.
Another memorable stop included the Animal and Plant Health Agency’s “scents and sensors” exhibit, where the King met a cocker spaniel named Zinc. The display highlighted the role detection dogs can play in identifying plant pests and diseases.
Later in the evening, other members of the royal family, including the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, also toured the celebrated flower show.
