Rare Banksy Painting Expected to Break Records

A previously unseen work by Banksy is expected to set a new auction record when it goes on sale in New York later this month, with experts estimating it could fetch as much as $18 million.

The painting, titled Girl and Balloon on Found Landscape, will be auctioned on May 20 during an exclusive invitation-only event hosted by Fair Warning, the boutique auction house founded by art dealer Loïc Gouzer.

Before the sale, the artwork will make its public debut at Tiffany & Co. The Landmark, the luxury jeweler’s flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

The piece is especially notable because it combines two of Banksy’s most recognizable themes: his iconic Girl with Balloon image and elements from his rare Crude Oil series, a body of work considered highly sought after by collectors.

Auction organizers have valued the painting between $13 million and $18 million, making it the highest estimate ever attached to a Banksy work at auction.

Gouzer praised the anonymous artist as one of the defining creative figures of the modern era, arguing that Banksy’s outsider status has helped shape his cultural impact. He suggested the artist could eventually join the ranks of creators whose works regularly sell for more than $100 million.

Known for politically charged street art and a fiercely anti-establishment reputation, Banksy has repeatedly challenged the traditional art world while simultaneously becoming one of its most commercially successful figures.
