London Prepares for Protests Over US-Iran Conflict
The Metropolitan Police has increased patrols across central London as demonstrations are expected on Saturday in response to the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Police officers have been deployed around key areas of the capital to protect sensitive locations and reassure communities ahead of planned protests linked to tensions in the Middle East. Authorities say the enhanced presence is intended to maintain public safety and manage potential large gatherings.
Rising Tensions in the Middle East
The security measures come as the conflict between Israel and Iran continues to intensify. On Friday, marking the seventh day of the escalating crisis, Israel’s military announced it had launched a new wave of airstrikes in Iran.
According to Israeli officials, around 50 fighter jets were involved in the operation, which reportedly destroyed a military command bunker in Tehran.
Meanwhile, Iranian forces launched missiles and drones targeting locations in Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Reports suggest the strikes were aimed at US military bases as well as civilian infrastructure, including oil pipelines.
Witnesses in Iran described the latest airstrikes as particularly intense. Powerful explosions reportedly shook buildings across the capital, leaving many residents concerned about the worsening security situation.
Trump Comments on Iran’s Future
Former US President Donald Trump also commented on the situation through his social media platform Truth Social. In his statement, Trump said the United States and its allies would work toward stabilizing Iran in the future.
“After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction,” Trump wrote.
He added that Iran could become economically stronger in the future, concluding his post with the slogan “Make Iran Great Again (MIGA!).”
Protests Expected Across London
The planned demonstrations follow several protests that took place across London last weekend in response to the growing crisis.
According to the Metropolitan Police, some protests were organized by groups opposing the Iranian government, while others expressed support for Iran or criticized potential military intervention in the region.
Large gatherings were reported outside the Iranian Embassy in London, as well as in Parliament Square and Whitehall. Smaller community demonstrations also took place in parts of northwest London.
Police Say Most Demonstrations Were Peaceful
The Metropolitan Police said that the vast majority of last weekend’s demonstrations remained peaceful. Only a small number of arrests were reported, and officers confirmed that there were no clashes between opposing groups.
Authorities also thanked protest organizers for cooperating with police and helping ensure public safety during the demonstrations.
With new protests planned this weekend, police say they will continue monitoring the situation and maintaining a visible presence across central London.
