Met Police officer quits after stealing Pret sandwich
A Metropolitan Police officer who stole a £2.25 tuna baguette from Pret A Manger would have been dismissed if he had not already left the force, a misconduct panel has ruled.
Former PC David Fyfe was caught on CCTV taking the sandwich while on duty on April 9 last year from a Pret A Manger branch located inside The Mall shopping centre in Wood Green, north London.
CCTV Footage Captured the Incident
According to the written misconduct ruling, Fyfe spent “some moments looking at the sandwich fridge” before selecting an item and “immediately walked out of the store without making any attempt to pay for it.”
A Pret employee witnessed the officer leaving the store holding the baguette before getting into the passenger seat of a police vehicle and driving away.
The employee later reported the incident to another police officer who had entered the store to purchase coffee.

Dispute Over the Item Taken
A store manager confirmed that the item taken was a slim tuna baguette priced at £2.25.
However, during an interview, Fyfe stated that the sandwich was a cheese and pickle baguette costing £5, according to the misconduct ruling.
Gross Misconduct Finding
Following a misconduct hearing held on February 13, the panel concluded that Fyfe’s actions amounted to gross misconduct.
The panel determined that his behaviour would have justified dismissal had he still been serving as a member of the Metropolitan Police.
