Queen Camilla and Joe Alwyn Beam at Hamnet Screening
Queen Camilla was all smiles on Tuesday, 27 January as she stepped out in London for a special screening of Hamnet, just hours after the film adaptation collected 11 BAFTA nominations.
The 78-year-old royal met members of the cast and creative team, including actor Joe Alwyn and young star Jacobi Jupe, who plays the title role. She also greeted author Maggie O’Farrell, whose bestselling novel inspired the film, along with costume designer Małgosia Turzańska.
Dressed elegantly in a black gown adorned with floral appliqués, Camilla told attendees, “I’m very proud to be here tonight and watching this wonderful film, which we put on the Reading Room – one of the first books I put on – so I’m looking forward to seeing it on the screen.”

Her Majesty championed the book — also titled Hamnet — during the pandemic as one of the first recommendations on The Queen’s Reading Room, the book club-turned-charity she founded during lockdown.
“A story that stays with you long after the final scene…,” the Royal Family shared on Instagram alongside images from the screening.
They added, “This evening, The Queen attended a special screening of Hamnet, the film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s award-winning novel, hosted by The Queen’s Reading Room, in partnership with Universal and Focus Features.”
