Saudi Arabia is gearing up to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and it plans to do so in groundbreaking fashion. At the heart of its preparations is the world’s first Sky Stadium — a $1 billion architectural marvel suspended 350 meters above the desert floor within NEOM’s The Line, the country’s futuristic linear city.

This awe-inspiring venue will be one of 15 stadiums selected for the 2034 World Cup and symbolizes Saudi Arabia’s vision for innovation, sustainability, and global sports leadership under Vision 2030.

A $1 Billion Engineering Wonder in the Desert

The NEOM Sky Stadium will be built directly into The Line, the 170-kilometer-long mirrored city stretching across Saudi Arabia’s northwest coast. Unlike any stadium before it, this venue will be integrated into the city’s vertical architecture — effectively making it part of the skyline itself.

Estimated to cost $1 billion, construction is expected to begin in 2027, with completion slated for 2032, two years before kickoff. Designed to seat approximately 46,000 spectators, the Sky Stadium will host matches from the group stages through the quarterfinals and continue to operate as a year-round sports and entertainment hub long after the tournament ends.

Futuristic Design Meets Sustainable Technology

The Sky Stadium’s design showcases sharp geometric lines, mirrored façades, and LED-lit details that blend seamlessly into NEOM’s surrounding environment. The roof — resembling fractured glass panels — creates a dazzling visual effect, while the beehive-like seating bowl ensures optimal visibility and world-class acoustics for fans.

In line with NEOM’s sustainability goals, the stadium will be 100% powered by renewable energy. Access to the venue will rely exclusively on electric transport systems, and the surrounding sports district will feature training centers, accommodation, retail zones, and leisure facilities, forming a net-zero carbon complex without compromising luxury or comfort.

• New Murabba Stadium (Riyadh) – inspired by desert tree patterns, designed as a multi-use entertainment venue.
• Aramco Stadium (Al Khobar) – a vortex-shaped structure representing fluid motion, budgeted at over $1 billion.
