Macron’s Sunglasses Send iVision Stock Soaring

Shares of Italian eyewear manufacturer iVision Tech surged almost 28% on Thursday after French President Emmanuel Macron appeared wearing aviator sunglasses during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, igniting a wave of memes and speculation online.

The group, which owns French luxury eyewear brand Henry Jullien, said the model worn by Macron was the Pacific S 01, priced at €659 ($770) on the brand’s website. The viral moment created a “wow effect on the stock,” iVision Tech CEO Stefano Fulchir told Reuters.

The rally added approximately €3.5 million ($4.1 million) in market capitalization to the Milan-listed company. The stock was repeatedly halted from trading due to volatility and is now on track for its largest one-day gain on record.

Social media exploded with comparisons to the 1986 film Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise, while even former U.S. President Donald Trump weighed in on the trend.

Macron’s office said the sunglasses were worn indoors to protect his eyes after a burst blood vessel but did not confirm the brand. Fulchir, however, insisted the glasses were unmistakably Henry Jullien and said he had sent the model to Macron in 2024.
