William and Kate Highlight Scottish Heritage

Prince William and Kate Middleton began a significant visit to Scotland this week, though royal aides confirmed that certain details of their itinerary were withheld in advance for security reasons. Royal editor Rebecca English reported that one scheduled engagement was deliberately not disclosed to the public ahead of time.

The Prince and Princess of Wales departed the UK on Tuesday, January 20, with Kensington Palace later issuing an update as the couple traveled north. Their visit aims to highlight Scotland’s cultural heritage through a series of events in Stirling and Falkirk.

Upon arrival, William and Kate — known in Scotland as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay and as the Lord and Lady of the Isles — were set to meet Great Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic curling teams at the National Curling Academy in Stirling. The visit comes ahead of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, scheduled for February and March.

The couple were also scheduled to tour Stirling’s Radical Weavers, a working hand-weaving workshop and charitable organization. While learning about the history of Scottish tartan, the royal pair were expected to witness how blankets and fabrics are produced and later donated to people in need, as well as explore the therapeutic benefits associated with weaving.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry has remained in the UK as he continues legal action against the publisher of the Daily Mail. King Charles and Queen Camilla are currently at Balmoral, though it remains unclear whether they will meet William and Kate during their time in Scotland.
