Trump Defends ICE Agent After Deadly Minnesota Shooting
U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday defended a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent involved in a fatal shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, saying the officer acted in self-defense during a confrontation captured on video.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the footage as “a horrible thing to watch,” claiming that the woman at the scene was “a professional agitator” and that the driver was “very disorderly, obstructing and resisting,” before “violently, willfully, and viciously” running over the ICE officer.
According to Trump, the agent opened fire in response and was later hospitalized. “Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive,” the president wrote, adding that the officer was expected to recover.
The White House later issued a statement expressing support for ICE and law enforcement, praising “the brave men and women who risk everything to keep our communities safe.”
Broader Political Context
Trump linked the incident to what he characterized as growing hostility toward federal officers, saying that “Radical Left” activists are “threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis.”
The case is expected to prompt further scrutiny as federal and local authorities review video evidence and witness testimony. Officials have not yet released a final investigative report.
