Madonna Says She Lost Hope During Guy Ritchie Battle

Madonna recalls losing hope in her custody battle with Guy Ritchie after son Rocco chose to live in London.

Madonna has opened up about one of the most difficult periods of her life: her highly publicized custody dispute with ex-husband Guy Ritchie over their son, Rocco.

The Queen of Pop and British filmmaker Guy Ritchie married in Scotland in December 2000. The couple share a biological son, Rocco, born in August 2000, and later adopted a son, David Banda, in May 2008. Their marriage ended in October 2008, citing irreconcilable differences.

Years after their divorce, tensions resurfaced in 2015 when Rocco refused to return to the United States after visiting his father in London. The situation escalated into a legal custody battle that lasted until 2016, when an agreement was reached allowing Rocco to live primarily with his father in the UK.

Reflecting on that emotionally draining time, the 67-year-old singer admitted she felt completely hopeless. Speaking to Radar Online, Madonna said, “Someone trying to take my child away from me was like—they might as well just kill me.”

Despite the intense conflict, Madonna and Rocco, now 25, have since repaired their relationship. However, according to reports, her current boyfriend, Akeem Morris, is deeply upset after learning what she went through.

A source claims Morris is furious about the way Madonna was affected during the custody dispute and feels protective of her. “Even though she and Guy have been done for years, Akeem is just hearing about it all, and he’s absolutely furious. He says the guy deserves to face consequences for hurting his ‘queen,’” the insider told the outlet.

The source also suggested that Madonna enjoys the strong support from her partner, something she reportedly hasn’t experienced before. Morris, a 29-year-old from Jamaica, is described as “old-school” and protective, despite the 38-year age gap and significant financial difference between them.

“Even with the age difference and wealth gap, he’s still the alpha in the relationship, and for him that means protecting her,” the insider added.

While Madonna has moved on and focused on healing and family, the emotional scars from the custody battle remain a powerful chapter in her life—one she is now able to speak about openly.
