Justin Trudeau’s Ex-Wife Breaks Her Silence
Canadian television host and mental-health advocate Sophie Grégoire Trudeau has opened up about her honest reaction to the highly publicized relationship between her ex-husband, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and global pop star Katy Perry.
During a candid conversation on the Arlene Is Alone podcast, Sophie explained that it’s natural to feel affected when an ex-partner begins dating someone new — especially under the intense spotlight of public attention.
“We’re human beings, and everything affects us. It’s normal. It’s up to you to decide how you react to things. So, I chose to listen to the music rather than the noise,” she shared.
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau on Emotions, Public Scrutiny, and Growth
Sophie emphasized how public commentary can trigger emotional responses, noting:
“I’m very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers. We’re humans.”
Despite the scrutiny, she affirmed that personal growth remains her priority.
She clarified that choosing how to respond does not mean being emotionless:
“This doesn’t mean I don’t have feelings or don’t cry, scream, and laugh. Especially since I’m a super tender heart, right? But it’s my decision after that — between the emotion and the reaction.”
Sophie and Justin Trudeau separated in 2023, ending 18 years of marriage. As a mental-health advocate, she highlighted the importance of acknowledging emotions:
“I’ll allow myself to be disappointed by someone, furious, and sad. And as a mental health advocate, I understand how crucial it is to feel those emotions.”
