Mel C Reportedly Set for Secret Wedding This Weekend
Spice Girls star Mel C is reportedly preparing to marry her boyfriend, Australian model, actor and screenwriter Chris Dingwall, in a private countryside ceremony this weekend, according to multiple media reports.
Although the 52-year-old singer has not publicly confirmed an engagement or wedding plans, the Daily Mail reported that the couple are ready to exchange vows in what has been described as a “secret wedding.”
Few details about the ceremony have been revealed. However, the Daily Mail claims that nearly all members of the Spice Girls are expected to attend, making it a special reunion as the group celebrates 30 years since the release of their debut hit, Wannabe. Victoria Beckham is reportedly the only member unable to attend, as she is currently in the United States with her husband, David Beckham, for the FIFA Club World Cup final.
A source quoted by the Daily Mail said there has been surprise over the reported wedding date, as it falls on the eve of the football final. The source also suggested that Mel C could eventually relocate to Australia with Dingwall, where she has worked as a coach on The Voice Australia. Her daughter, Scarlett, is also expected to begin university later this year.
For many years, Mel C—whose full name is Melanie Chisholm—said she had no interest in getting married. In a 2022 interview with The Sunday Times, she explained that her parents’ divorce when she was three years old shaped her views on marriage.
However, in a more recent interview with The Sunday Times, published in January, the singer admitted that her perspective had changed. She said she is happier than ever with Dingwall and is now open to the idea of marriage, adding that she wants to embrace new experiences in life.
Mel C has never been married before and shares her 17-year-old daughter, Scarlett, with former partner Thomas Starr.
The couple made their relationship public in 2024. During an appearance on the Life Uncut podcast, hosted by Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, Mel C revealed that they first met through the celebrity dating app Raya.
Speaking to The Telegraph in May, the singer described Dingwall as relaxed, fun and someone who shares her personality and lifestyle.
The reported wedding comes as the Spice Girls celebrate the 30th anniversary of Wannabe. On 15 July, all five members marked the milestone with posts on Instagram.
Earlier this month, Mel C also reflected on the group’s success while accepting the Global Impact Award at the Nordoff and Robbins Silver Clef Awards at London’s Royal Albert Hall. She recalled the excitement of seeing Wannabe in record stores for the first time and said the group achieved far more than they had ever imagined. The song went on to become one of the defining hits of the 1990s, selling more than eight million copies worldwide.
