Expert Says Mike Knows Limits Harry Crossed
Mike Tindall’s close bond with the Royal Family has once again drawn attention, with royal commentators comparing him to Prince Harry in their roles as uncles to the younger royals.
The former rugby player, married to Zara Tindall, recently spoke about the competitive nature of the Royal Family during an interview with Woman & Home. Reflecting on family gatherings, he revealed that sport plays a major role among the royals.
“Sport is rife throughout the family — everyone is competitive,” Mike said, adding that the Princess of Wales enjoys games and has even joined in “Prosecco pong” during social occasions.
Mike has often been seen sharing affectionate moments with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, while his own children — Mia, Lena and Lucas — maintain close relationships with their royal cousins.
Since Prince Harry stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States in 2020, some royal observers have described Mike as the family’s unofficial “fun uncle.” Body language expert Judi James previously suggested that Mike helped fill what she called a “Harry-shaped gap” in Prince George’s life, praising his relaxed and playful presence.
“Mike is the fun uncle everyone needs,” James said, arguing that his influence is especially valuable for George, whose future role carries significant responsibility.
However, royal commentator Jennie Bond believes there is a major distinction between Mike and Harry.
Speaking to the Mirror, Bond said Mike generally knows where to draw the line with his humour and public comments, even when making cheeky jokes.
“For the most part he is very careful about what he says,” Bond explained. “He knows where to draw the line — and it’s all said with good humour.”
She contrasted this with Prince Harry, arguing that the Duke of Sussex has faced criticism for publicly discussing royal disagreements and private family conversations.
Prince Harry has previously spoken warmly about being an uncle, describing his affection for Prince George and his hopes of playing an active role in his nephews’ and niece’s lives.
The comparison between Harry and Mike highlights differing public perceptions of the two men — one remaining closely involved with royal family life, while the other continues his life abroad following his departure from royal duties
