Ricky Gervais’s long-term partner Jane Fallon reveals she’s been diagnosed with breast cancer
Author Jane Fallon has shared that she was recently diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, despite having no symptoms at the time.
The bestselling novelist, who has been in a long-term relationship with comedian Ricky Gervais for more than four decades, revealed the news on Instagram after followers noticed she had been quieter than usual online.
Fallon explained that the cancer was discovered during a routine mammogram shortly before Christmas. Although she felt completely well, a radiographer noticed something unusual and referred her for further tests. She subsequently underwent additional mammograms, biopsies, and an MRI scan so doctors could identify the affected area precisely.
Thankfully, Fallon said the cancer was detected at a very early stage and doctors have told her the prognosis is excellent. She is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming weeks and said she is eager to get the procedure behind her.
The 65-year-old added that while the experience has been overwhelming at times, she is receiving outstanding medical care and focusing on rest and recovery. She joked that her days currently revolve around audiobooks, puzzles, and spending time with her pets.
Fallon began her career in television before turning to writing fiction. Her debut novel, Getting Rid of Matthew, was published in 2007 and became a bestseller. Since then she has released 14 novels, including Faking Friends, Just Got Real, Queen Bee, and Worst. Idea. Ever.

Born in Harrow, Fallon met Ricky Gervais while both were studying at University College London in 1982. The couple moved in together two years later and have remained together ever since, living in Hampstead with their pets.
Following her announcement, many fans and supporters sent messages of encouragement online, expressing relief that the cancer had been detected early and wishing her a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
Earlier this year, Fallon also spoke openly about her personal life, saying she has never regretted her decision not to have children. She explained that even when she was young, she imagined a future focused on her work and independence rather than marriage or family life.
Fallon and Gervais have likewise been candid about their choice not to marry. Gervais has previously joked that their relationship is essentially a marriage already, noting that they share everything and that their long partnership has lasted longer than many formal marriages.
