Stargate SG-1 Returns to Netflix in 2026

Stargate SG-1 is officially returning to Netflix in early 2026, marking a major comeback for one of science fiction’s most enduring television franchises. According to updated availability listings, all ten seasons of the iconic series will begin streaming on Netflix starting February 15, 2026, in the United States and select international markets.

The move brings Stargate SG-1 back to Netflix after a three-year absence. The series was removed in December 2022 following Amazon’s acquisition of MGM, which resulted in much of the Stargate catalog shifting to Prime Video. At the time, the removal appeared permanent, making Netflix’s new licensing agreement a notable reversal.

Only the Flagship Series Returns

Netflix’s deal applies exclusively to Stargate SG-1. Spin-off series Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate: Universe will remain exclusive to Prime Video for the foreseeable future. Still, the return of the franchise’s flagship show gives Netflix subscribers access to the complete original run without needing multiple streaming platforms.

A Cornerstone of the Stargate Franchise

Running for ten seasons, Stargate SG-1 is widely regarded as the backbone of the Stargate universe. The series built a loyal global fanbase during its original broadcast and has consistently performed well whenever it has been available on streaming services. Its mix of episodic adventures, long-form storytelling, and expansive mythology has helped it endure well beyond its original run.

Strategic Timing for Netflix

The addition of Stargate SG-1 strengthens Netflix’s late-2025 and early-2026 content strategy, which has increasingly emphasized established franchises alongside new original productions. Legacy sci-fi series with proven audience demand continue to be reliable performers on streaming, particularly as nostalgia-driven viewing remains strong.

Prime Video’s New Stargate Series in Development

The announcement also comes as Prime Video continues development on a new Stargate television series. The project is being led by Martin Gero, who previously worked on Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe, along with other long-time creatives associated with the franchise. While Prime Video focuses on expanding the Stargate universe with new stories, Netflix is positioning itself as the primary destination for revisiting the original series.

Renewed Interest in a Sci-Fi Classic

For fans and new viewers alike, Stargate SG-1’s return to Netflix aligns with renewed interest in the franchise, driven by ongoing development activity and sustained fan engagement. With this move, Netflix adds another recognizable, long-running sci-fi title to its library—reinforcing its commitment to series with lasting cultural impact and strong audience loyalty.
