Rubbish ‘Mountain the Size of Eight Houses’ Dumped at UK

Locals have reacted with anger after a vast mound of illegal waste — said to be as large as eight semi-detached houses — was discovered at a countryside beauty spot in Wadborough, Worcestershire.

The towering heap, measuring roughly 30ft high and 100m (328ft) long, appeared seemingly overnight in a yard off a quiet rural road, just two miles from a National Trust property.

Residents only realised the scale of the dump when the waste pile grew tall enough to be visible above the treeline surrounding the site.

One villager said:

“It’s bigger than a house — like eight semis. There are tonnes and tonnes of waste. My concern is that it is contaminating the brook.”

Another resident added:

“Nobody really knows who owns the land or what’s going on there, but the rubbish mountain is impossible to miss. It’s bigger than the trees around it. It’s a relief the authorities are involved, but I just hope it gets cleared soon.”

Second Major Dumping Incident in One Month

The discovery marks the second huge fly-tipping incident in the region this month, amid growing concerns about organised waste crime.

Earlier, The Sun revealed that criminal gangs are posing as legitimate waste disposal firms, dumping rubbish illegally to avoid landfill fees — which can reach £150 per tonne.

These illicit groups are also believed to be linked to human trafficking, drug offences and money laundering, according to investigators.

Environment Agency Launches Investigation

The Environment Agency has begun a formal investigation into the Wadborough site, located about eight miles from Worcester.

A spokesperson said:

“We are currently investigating the illegal deposit of waste at the junction of Crabbe Lane and Rebecca Road near Wadborough. As this is a live investigation, we cannot comment further. We have provided guidance to the landowner on the steps required to remove the waste.”

The agency urged the public to report any suspicious activity to its incident hotline: 0800 80 70 60.

Part of a Wider Criminal Operation

The probe follows the recent arrest of a 39-year-old man in connection with what has been described as Britain’s biggest fly-tip — a 500ft-long, 20ft-high mass of rubbish dumped in a field near Kidlington, Oxfordshire.

Anglers discovered that pile after spotting plastic, wood and foam strewn near the A34.

The incident was even raised in Parliament, where MP Calum Miller warned that criminal gangs are dumping waste on an industrial scale nationwide, earning millions each year. He described the Oxfordshire tip as “threatening an environmental disaster.”

Investigators believe much of the waste had been shredded at a transfer station before being abandoned, potentially saving the culprits around £100,000 in landfill fees.

Last year alone, the UK recorded more than 100 large-scale fly-tipping incidents, costing taxpayers an estimated £1 billion.
