The Celebrity Traitors finale
The Celebrity Traitors has cemented its position as the most-watched television show of the year in the UK — and it could break audience records with its highly anticipated finale airing tonight on BBC One.
The first four episodes of the celebrity version of the hit reality game show averaged an astonishing 12.6 million viewers, according to official seven-day consolidated figures from Barb. The audience has grown steadily each week, prompting industry analysts to predict that the finale could attract as many as 14 to 15 million viewers.
Such numbers are exceedingly rare for non-live television in the UK. Only two other programmes in 2024 have reached audiences of 12 million or more: Gavin & Stacey’s farewell episode (19.3 million) and Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (17.1 million).
Early Release Sparks Global Stir
Excitement around the finale reached fever pitch after reports emerged that the final episode had been accidentally released online over 24 hours before its UK broadcast. Viewers in Canada and New Zealand said they were able to stream the finale on Crave Canada and ThreeNow before it was swiftly pulled.
Social media was flooded with claims from fans who managed to watch the episode early. However, many viewers have shown remarkable restraint, avoiding spoilers out of respect for others. “I promise not to spoil it for you, Brits,” wrote one Canadian user on X (formerly Twitter).
A BBC spokesperson responded with a plea to fans:
“We kindly ask anyone who thinks they know the outcome of The Celebrity Traitors to keep whatever they believe they know to themselves. Please avoid sharing potential spoilers so that the millions of fans who have been faithfully following every twist and turn of the series can enjoy the final this evening.”
A Ratings Milestone in the Making
With buzz surrounding the leaked finale and viewership figures already soaring, The Celebrity Traitors appears poised to achieve record-breaking numbers when it airs at 9 p.m. tonight on BBC One.
If predictions hold true, it could surpass both its non-celebrity predecessor — whose finale drew 10 million viewers — and become one of the highest-rated entertainment broadcasts of the decade.
