Crime Hotspots Across Britain Named in Report

A new safety index has highlighted several high-crime hotspots across the United Kingdom, suggesting that residents and newcomers alike should take extra care in certain locations.

The rankings, compiled by security training provider Get Licensed, compare crime levels in major towns and cities to identify areas with the highest incident rates. According to the latest findings, Manchester sits in 10th place, recording around 152 crimes per 1,000 residents. Although this figure remains high, it marks a noticeable improvement on the previous year.

Just above Manchester is Leicester, followed closely by Newcastle upon Tyne and then Middlesbrough.

Further up the table, the historic city of Bristol reports an even greater concentration of offences, only slightly behind the London district of Westminster. Despite being home to Parliament and many major landmarks, Westminster still experiences significant levels of theft and other crime.

Taking one of the top three positions is Nottingham. Across its NG1 to NG34 postcodes, the annual crime rate is about 118 incidents per 1,000 people, placing it among the least safe areas nationally.

In the capital, Islington is ranked as the second most dangerous location overall. In postcodes N1, N4–N8, N16 and N19, robbery and theft dominate police reports, with rates around three times the national average. Crime in these neighbourhoods has risen by more than 8% year on year, and repeat offending remains a persistent issue.

Topping the list is Camden. Popular with visitors for its markets and music scene, the borough nevertheless records high levels of harassment, public disorder and violent incidents. Postcodes covering areas such as NW1 to NW8, along with parts of N1, N6, N7 and N19, account for a large share of offences, and offenders in Camden are particularly likely to commit further crimes.

While these rankings don’t mean every street is unsafe, they underline the wide variation in crime levels from one area to another and the importance of staying aware of local safety conditions when choosing where to live.
