Sydney Sweeney Applauds Amanda Seyfried in The Housemaid
Sydney Sweeney Praises Amanda Seyfried’s “Unhinged” Performance in The Housemaid
The Euphoria star calls working with Seyfried a dream come true in the new psychological thriller directed by Paul Feig.
Sydney Sweeney has nothing but admiration for her The Housemaid co-star Amanda Seyfried, praising the actress’s extraordinary talent in a recent candid interview.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Sweeney revealed she has been a longtime fan of Seyfried. “I grew up as a huge fan of Amanda’s, to the point that I memorised Mamma Mia! ,” she said, adding that working alongside her felt like a dream come true.
The 28-year-old actress also opened up about their dynamic on set while filming the psychological thriller The Housemaid, in which Sweeney plays troubled housemaid Millie and Seyfried portrays Nina Winchester, a wealthy but deeply unstable housewife.
“Getting to see her play such an unhinged character was such a treat,” Sweeney explained. “Usually I’m playing the unhinged character—like in Euphoria —so it was so fun being able to watch an actor just come to life and bring something different every single time. She completely killed it. She blew me away.”
Released in cinemas on December 19, 2025, The Housemaid is directed by Paul Feig and is based on the bestselling novel by Freida McFadden . The film has quickly gained attention for its bold tone, shocking twists, and unapologetically trashy fun.
Earlier this month, the film was described by critics as a gloriously unhinged psychological thriller that leans into camp, suspense, and salacious secrets. What could have been a straightforward domestic potboiler is transformed into a wickedly entertaining cat-and-mouse game, powered by two fearless lead performances.
Seyfried, 40, fresh off what many consider a career-best turn earlier in 2025, delivers her second standout performance of the year as Nina Winchester. Her portrayal peels back a polished facade to reveal manic fury, razor-sharp manipulation, and masterful gaslighting—cementing her as one of the most compelling performers in contemporary cinema.
With strong word of mouth and two leading ladies clearly enjoying the chaos, The Housemaid is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about thrillers of the year.
