Grandmother Found Alive in Coffin Moments Before Cremation in Thailand
In a shocking incident in Thailand, a 65-year-old woman believed to be dead was discovered alive inside her coffin only minutes before she was to be cremated. The astonishing moment unfolded at Wat Rat Prakhong Tham, a temple on the outskirts of Bangkok, after a funeral worker heard mysterious knocking and faint cries coming from the coffin.
Stunned Worker Discovers “Dead” Woman Moving
Thammanoon, 27, who was preparing the cremation, said he froze in disbelief when he noticed movement beneath the burial cloth.
“I was stunned. She was conscious, breathing weakly, and nodding her head — but she couldn’t speak,”
he recounted.
The temple later shared footage showing the elderly woman, identified as Chonthirot, moving her head and brushing flies away as her shocked family looked on.
Family Drove 225 Miles for Free Cremation
Chonthirot’s brother, Mongkol, 57, revealed that she had been bedridden for two years and appeared to have died early on November 23. Believing she had passed away, the family placed her in a white coffin and drove nearly 225 miles to the Bangkok temple, known for offering free funeral services to low-income families.
Mongkol even handed over official death paperwork to the monk overseeing the ceremony.

Ambulance Rushes to Save Woman Thought to Be Dead
Emergency responders were immediately called, and Chonthirot was rushed to Bang Yai Hospital, with the temple covering her medical costs.
Abbot Phra Kitti Wachirathada described the event as a “miracle,” saying he was grateful the family was given a second chance.
Past Cases of People Found Alive Before Cremation in Thailand
This isn’t the first time Thailand has witnessed such unbelievable scenes.
Case in 2019: Woman Revives After Three Days in Cold Coffin
In 2019, Phinij Sopajorn, 70, who had been suffering from thyroid swelling, was declared dead at a hospital and taken home for a Buddhist funeral. She was kept in a refrigerated coffin for three days before cremation.
During a ritual cleansing, her husband Thawin noticed her breathing softly and saw her eyes flicker. Paramedics revived her with CPR, and she was warmed with fans and hot water bottles. Thawin had suspected she might still be alive because her body never stiffened.

Recent Case: Newborn Baby Found Alive in Toilet Cistern
Just last week, a newborn baby girl was discovered alive inside a toilet cistern at an office building in Bangkok. A housekeeper heard crying and found the infant wet but unharmed, aside from water-wrinkled hands. Emergency services rescued the child, calling it another miraculous survival.
