Prince William Stays Silent on Andrew Scandal
Prince William kept his composure during a fireside chat with CNN when asked about the Royal Family’s recent controversies involving Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
It has been a turbulent few months for the Royals, with King Charles officially stripping Andrew of his princeship and all his titles. When CNN’s Christiane Amanpour questioned William about his earlier remarks on wanting “change for good” once he becomes king, he avoided addressing the scandals surrounding Andrew or the ongoing tensions with his brother Harry and sister-in-law Meghan. Instead, he redirected the discussion toward his environmental initiative, The Earthshot Prize.
He highlighted the work of those in attendance, saying, “Change will come from backing them, not by what I do. I want to surround myself with people who want to make change and do good in the world.”
William and Amanpour also discussed his role as a father and leader for young people around the world. “For my children, especially, knowing that the planet will be in a better, healthier state because of the people in this room is something I love to tell them before bed — that their future will be as bright as those before them. A world without hope and positivity is a pretty depressing place,” he said.
The Prince of Wales is currently on his first trip to Brazil, where he will conclude by meeting Indigenous communities to learn about their role in protecting vital ecosystems. William traveled to Rio de Janeiro to host the Earthshot Prize ceremony on Wednesday.
Addressing the delegates, including Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, he stated, “Where Indigenous people and local communities have secured land rights, deforestation is lower, biodiversity is richer, and carbon is better stored. Let us build a future where Indigenous people and local communities are recognized as global climate leaders — where their rights are protected, their voices heard, and their knowledge respected as vital to the health of our planet.”
Meanwhile, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor — formerly Prince Andrew, Duke of York — has been stripped of his titles and reportedly received an eviction notice from his Royal Lodge residence. His long-association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has placed immense strain on the Royal Family, prompting decisive action. Though now a commoner, Andrew remains eighth in line to the throne.
The Rift Between Prince William and Prince Harry
Prince Harry’s departure from royal duties began soon after his 2018 marriage to actress Meghan Markle — a journey chronicled in their controversial 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan. Once close brothers who famously walked behind their mother Princess Diana’s coffin in 1997, their relationship has deteriorated in recent years.
Tensions peaked, according to Harry’s memoir Spare, during a confrontation in which he accused William of physically attacking him. Harry wrote that William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and knocked me to the floor” during an argument in which William allegedly called Meghan “difficult,” “rude,” and “abrasive.”
