Mayor Mamdani Joins Brooklyn Community for Eid al-Fitr Prayers
Dozens of people gathered in Prospect Park on Friday morning to celebrate Eid, marking the end of Ramadan with prayer, reflection, and community. Families arrived early, laying out prayer rugs and joining together for one of the most meaningful moments of the year.
The event, organized by the Brooklyn Islamic Center, is part of an annual tradition that brings together residents from across New York City. Mayor Zohran Mamdani attended the gathering, offering Eid greetings and emphasizing the importance of unity.

“Eid Mubarak to everyone here,” he said, reflecting on the spirit of connection seen throughout the city during Ramadan. He highlighted acts of kindness and solidarity, from teachers providing space for prayer to families supporting loved ones and communities growing stronger together.
For many attendees, the day held deeper significance beyond celebration. Sam Surahman of Midwood described it as a time that represents patience, generosity, and compassion, noting the importance of charity during Ramadan.
After the prayers, families stayed in the park to socialize, with children receiving snack bags and neighbors spending time together. Organizers said such gatherings help maintain a sense of community even after the holy month ends.
