Lily Allen says her children have suffered the same pain she did during her marriage breakdown to David Harbour

Lily Allen has revealed that her two daughters have endured the same emotional turmoil she faced during the collapse of her marriage to actor David Harbour.

The 40-year-old singer surprised fans last month with the release of her candid new album West End Girl, which lays bare the difficult truths of her four-year marriage to the Stranger Things star, 50. The pair first met on the celebrity dating app Raya before marrying in 2020 and later separating in 2023.

In a new interview on CBS Mornings, Allen opened up about her rarely-seen daughters Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12, whom she shares with her ex-husband Sam Cooper. She said her girls are “doing great,” but admitted that they have inevitably walked through her pain alongside her.

“All of the pain that I’ve been through in the past year, they’ve been through too,”

Allen said, adding that she would dedicate the album to her daughters for that reason.

The “Smile” hitmaker explained that she wanted her children to see how pain can be transformed into creativity.

“I wanted to show my kids that you can use that pain and harness it and turn it into something else — and I think I’ve done that.”

Daughters Joining Her Upcoming Tour for the First Time

Allen also revealed that her teenagers are “excited” to join her on tour next year, marking the first time they will experience her live performances on a large scale. Her last major tour was in 2018, when the girls were too young to remember.

She said she is planning her tour around their school holidays so they can travel with her and bring friends along.

“It makes me want to cry talking about it because they’re so excited — and so am I. I can’t wait to have them there.”

The tour coincides with the 20th anniversary of her debut album Alright, Still, and will feature full performances of West End Girl. Scheduled stops include London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Nottingham, as well as appearances on Saturday Night Live in December and at Mighty Hoopla in London in May.

David Harbour Seen on Set After Album Fallout

Meanwhile, Harbour was photographed on the set of the upcoming crime film Evil Genius in New Jersey. The actor appeared almost unrecognizable due to padding, grey hair, a beard, and dark-framed glasses for his role in the Courteney Cox–directed project.

A Brutally Honest Album Detailing Infidelity and Heartbreak

Allen’s new album has generated intense online reaction for its unfiltered depiction of her marriage struggles — from Harbour’s alleged long-running affair to the couple’s attempt at an open relationship.

Across the album, Allen describes discovering sex toys, condoms, and what she refers to as Harbour’s “P***y Palace,” as well as confronting the emotional fallout of his relationship with a woman she names “Madeline.”

West End Girl, recorded in just 10 days following their split, marks Allen’s first album in seven years and has been met with widespread acclaim for its raw storytelling and sharp wit.

Speaking to CBS, she said the public response has been overwhelming:

“I write music for myself to make myself feel better, and when something connects with people, it’s affirming and validating.”

Allen added that the viral momentum surrounding the album reminds her of her early MySpace days, saying the online reaction feels like a “moment in time” that she hasn’t experienced since her 2006 breakout.Lily Allen has revealed that her two daughters have endured the same emotional turmoil she faced during the collapse of her marriage to actor David Harbour.
