LeBron’s “Old” Remark After Career-Worst Game

LeBron James admitted age is finally catching up to him after delivering one of the least productive games of his iconic 23-year career. The Los Angeles Lakers star finished with just 10 points, zero rebounds, three assists and three turnovers in 31 minutes during Monday’s loss, statistically marking one of the worst all-around outings of his career.

The poor performance came immediately after James sat out Sunday’s game due to left-foot injury management, despite the Lakers riding a seven-game winning streak.

When asked why he missed the previous matchup — one that wasn’t part of a back-to-back set — James didn’t hesitate. “It’s called old,” he joked, adding, “You wake up with s–t you didn’t have the night before.” According to StatMuse, James’ points-rebounds-assists total against Phoenix was the second-lowest of his career, behind only a 2004 performance in his sophomore season. His zero-rebound night was just the sixth such game in his entire NBA tenure.

Even in a difficult outing, James extended his NBA-record streak of double-digit scoring with a late fourth-quarter three. Head coach JJ Redick appeared to leave James in briefly to preserve the milestone.

James, who turns 41 this month, has not yet committed to playing a 24th season. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin recently reported that the superstar remains undecided about retirement, though he may feel a strong responsibility to suit up consistently if this season becomes his farewell tour.

Last year, James became the oldest player ever named to the All-NBA Second Team, extending his record to 21 consecutive selections. Achieving a 22nd straight nod would require a significant late-season surge.
