Princess Kate Seen Publicly After Supporting King Charles Over Andrew Investigation
Kate Middleton has made her first public appearance since reports emerged that she and Prince William privately supported King Charles III following the arrest of Prince Andrew.
The Princess of Wales was spotted in the stands ahead of the Guinness Men’s Six Nations match at Allianz Stadium Twickenham in London on February 21. Serving as Patron of both the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football League, Kate appeared in good spirits, smiling and wearing an England scarf as she prepared to watch the highly anticipated fixture.
Royal Family Faces Difficult Week
Despite the upbeat public appearance, the past week has been challenging for the Royal Family.
Prince Andrew was arrested on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office. The arrest follows allegations that surfaced after the release of documents connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The former Duke of York reportedly spent 11 hours in police custody on his 66th birthday before being released under investigation. The allegations claim that Andrew may have shared sensitive information with Epstein during his time as the UK’s trade envoy. He has strongly denied any wrongdoing regarding his association with Epstein but has not publicly addressed the latest claims.
King Charles Responds to Arrest
In a statement issued after his brother’s arrest, King Charles III said that “the law must take its course” and confirmed that police authorities have the Royal Family’s “full and wholehearted support and co-operation.”
According to sources cited by the Press Association, Prince William and Kate chose not to comment publicly but are understood to support the King’s position.
King Charles later attended the opening show of London Fashion Week just hours after the arrest, declining to respond when asked by reporters for his reaction.
Ongoing Investigation
Thames Valley Police is leading the investigation. Authorities are reportedly awaiting early investigative advice from the Crown Prosecution Service regarding the allegations.
Detectives have also asked Prince Andrew’s former close protection officers to carefully consider whether any information they witnessed during their service could assist the investigation into Epstein and his associates.
Meanwhile, police searches at Andrew’s former residence, Royal Lodge in Windsor, Berkshire, are ongoing and are expected to continue through Monday.
