Princess of Wales Stuns With Straight New Hairstyle
Kate Middleton steps out in an all-blue ensemble and a freshly straightened hairstyle during the German State Visit.
The Princess of Wales unveiled a fresh new hairstyle today as she joined Prince William in greeting German President Frank-Walter pop Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at the start of a high-profile state visit to the United Kingdom.
The royal couple welcomed the German delegation at Heathrow Airport before accompanying them to Windsor Castle, where they were formally greeted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla amid full ceremonial splendour.
Kate Middleton’s Sleek Straight Hairstyle Draws Attention
Royal fans were quick to notice a subtle but striking change in the Princess of Wales’ appearance. Known for her signature glossy waves, Kate, 43, opted for straightened hair, creating an elegant, streamlined look beneath her Juliette Botterill “bow and arrow” hat.
She completed the style with an all-blue ensemble consisting of a bespoke Alexander McQueen coat by Sarah Burton, layered over a Burberry dress, along with an Emmy London clutch and iconic Princess Diana sapphire earrings.
Observers praised the modern refresh, with some comparing her sleek style to that of Princess Charlotte, whose hair is often worn straight. One fan commented: “I’m loving the Princess of Wales’ sleek, straight hair today!”, while another added: “She looks just like Charlotte will in a few years.”
Kate’s latest look follows recent hair transformations, including a noticeably lighter blonde shade she debuted during a visit to the Natural History Museum in September. She has since joked that her brunette tresses have “gone light in the sunshine.”
William and Kate Take Leading Role in State Diplomacy
The Prince and Princess of Wales have increasingly represented the Crown during major state occasions, using what royal experts describe as “soft diplomacy” to strengthen international relationships.
Today’s engagements marked the beginning of a three-day state visit expected to spotlight politics, culture, economics and shared UK-German history, especially amid Europe’s heightened security concerns following Russia’s ongoing aggression in Ukraine.
At Windsor, the German President and First Lady were welcomed with a Royal Salute, a Guard of Honour, and a carriage procession up to the castle. Inside the Quadrangle, the King escorted President Steinmeier during an inspection of the troops.

Later, Their Majesties hosted a luncheon followed by a viewing of Royal Collection items related to Germany. The President then travelled to Downing Street for talks with the Prime Minister, while Ms. Büdenbender visited the Judith Kerr Primary School in London.
State Banquet and Key Speeches to Come
A glittering state banquet at Windsor Castle will take place this evening, with both King Charles and President Steinmeier set to deliver closely watched speeches addressing European security, the Ukraine conflict, and post-Brexit relations.
Royal watchers are also eager to see the tiaras and gowns expected to feature prominently at the dinner.
Packed Schedule Ahead
The German President and First Lady will continue their programme with:
- A private visit to St George’s Chapel to lay flowers at Queen Elizabeth II’s tomb
- A reception with The Big Help Out to spotlight the power of volunteering
- A viewing of the rarely seen State Sleigh, designed by Prince Albert
- Trips to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, V&A East Storehouse, and Coventry
The visit will formally conclude on Friday, with the Duke of Kent, 90, representing the King at regional engagements.
