Fans Divided Over Price and Design
Apple is once again the center of internet jokes after unveiling its latest accessory — the iPhone Pocket, a small fabric bag designed to carry iPhones. Priced at £219.95 ($230), the product has been widely mocked for its resemblance to a cut-up sock.
Online Reactions: “A Litmus Test for Apple Fans”
Shortly after the announcement, social media erupted with humor and criticism. Many users questioned why anyone would pay over $200 for what looks like a repurposed sock.
Popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee described it as a “litmus test” for devoted Apple fans who “buy or defend anything Apple releases.”
One user on X (formerly Twitter) commented: “$230 for a cut-up sock. No zip, no structure, and no security — considering how many iPhones get stolen these days, that’s a bold design choice.”
Collaboration with Issey Miyake
According to Apple’s press release, the iPhone Pocket is part of a limited-edition collaboration with Japanese fashion label Issey Miyake.
The design was inspired by “a piece of cloth” and aims to “create an additional pocket” for carrying essentials.
The short-strap version will be available in eight colors, while the long-strap version comes in three.
Issey Miyake, the late designer, was previously associated with Apple through his collaboration with Steve Jobs, designing the iconic black turtleneck worn by the company’s co-founder.

Critics argue that the high price tag and minimalist design expose the limits of Apple fan loyalty. Memes comparing the accessory to Borat’s green mankini have gone viral, while others defend the design as a fashion statement and homage to Apple’s creative legacy.
Supporters say the cost may reflect premium craftsmanship and the brand’s collaboration with Issey Miyake, noting that the accessory’s simplicity aligns with both brands’ minimalist aesthetics.
